The Head Prefect plays a prominent role in our school community, bridging the gap between the teacher and the student themselves. For that reason, the annual selection of the Head Prefect plays an essential part in the students' happiness. For the first time, the school is allowing the students to speak out for who they think would have the best intentions and would bring the most positive impact towards this school. For the 2018/2019 Head Prefect, the Candidates were Erin, Ophelie, Khalif, Megan and Kah Vern. On the 3rd of August 2018, Sri KDU Secondary School will hold an election for Head Prefect of the 2018/2019 term. The first candidate to be introduced was Erin, Erin's speech left a strong impression to the audience. She wanted students to be more involved in co-curicular activities such as sports and performing arts. She also wanted to create a safe environment for all students by having a student representative/counselor. One of the ideas that she brought up that wielded a positive response from the crowd was to create a Sri KDU app for all students and teachers to use. The app would replace Google Classroom and emails making it more convenient and accessible, which was something the students were very happy about. The app could also set reminders for school related events and assist the students in preparing for the aforementioned events. She ended her speech with a strong statement "A vote for me, is a vote for you. The second candidate to make her speech was Ophelie Lim. She emphasised on the point "It's not about me, it's about you guys." In 2019, she would like students to learn from their mistakes rather than to instill fear. She also wishes to establish a LEO Club which stands for Leadership, Experience and Opportunity. The club's goal is to instill leadership and responsibility into our fellow students. She also wishes to implement the Best Class of The Year Award and reward mentioned classes with merit points. She also wants to plant Green Trojans in every class to be shine light to 3R's. She also wanted to implement a project open to the students, it was a fund-raising event for the homeless. She also wants to hold a K-pop Dance Challenge. As you may or may not know, a majority of our school are fans of K-pop, so this will be the perfect opportunity for students to participate in an activity related to their interest and also show off their talents to the other students and teachers. The following candidate to make her appearance was Megan. She mentioned her objectives loud and clear, it was to create a positive environment for teachers and students alike and to promote unity. This can help the students to focus more in class as there will not be any bad blood between them. They will also feel more comfortable in class and not confined in the classroom. She also wishes to hold a monthly discussion between the monitors where they can discuss about the happenings in their classes and how to improve the environment inside the classroom. She also told the audience about holding a “Meme Day”, which is similar to Mufti Day, but everyone dresses up as their favorite meme, this made the hall burst out in a positive manner. She told the crowd about her idea to host a Movie Night for students and teachers alike, where we gather around in the hall and watch a movie. She ends her speech with the catchphrase; “Be a pal, vote for your gal.” The next person to get up on stage was Khalif, he talked about how he learned from Logan Paul and wanted to change the students’ mindset, especially the form ones. He wants to voice out the concern as he was bullied for his appearance earlier on in his secondary school life, and soon spiraled down in depression. For that reason, he wants to have a closer relationship with everyone and in order to do that, he wants to open an “Interact Club”, where everyone is included. He also wishes to raise awareness with this club. He also ends off his speech with a catchphrase; “Have a vision, make the right decision. Vote!” The last candidate to go up on stage was Kah Vern, he mentions why he chose a capybara as his logo and it’s because they look like him and also because they’re team players as Kah Vern also is. He believes that prefects are the bridge between the students and the school and because of his beliefs he is willing to open a student relation department in our school where students and voice out their ideas and concerns. He also mentions, “What makes the school great isn’t the classroom, it’s me and you.” He also wishes to open a mentor program for the next batch of form ones. He will be hosting the Guardian Angel Project where prefects will be assigned to the form one students and will be helping them with their first year in the school. He wishes the same could’ve been done for him as he got lost in his first year. He ends off his speech with an inspiring quote, “we will get there together. Slowly, but surely.”
